a pv reverse osmosis seawater desalination facility research program chaired by zhang xijian at hangzhou water treatment technology development center was accepted at the oceanic non-profit scientific research projects acceptance meeting, which was organized by the state oceanic administration science and technology department on nov 15.
the program is the first oceanic non-profit scientific research program conducted by the hangzhou water treatment technology development center. since the program was implemented in nov 2008, designed goals were achieved beyond expectations.
the program centers on facility coupling in reverse osmosis desalination of seawater with solar power supply and the pv seawater desalination equipment that can be used on sea islands.
in 2010, a pv reverse osmosis desalination demonstration project, the nation’s first, was launched on dayushan island in zhejiang province. test data from a third party showed energy consumption of the reverse osmosis body stood at 2.56 kwh per cubic meter and daily water produced by reverse osmosis body with power supply from per unit solar power panel reached 150 liters per square meters.
the program owns 6 national patents and 7 academic papers are based on them. results of the program have been included into the 2010 yearbook of seawater desalination in china and a video clip on the state oceanic administration’s innovation achievements in 2008.
equipment developed can serve isolated sea islands, coastal villages, coastal tourist resorts, offshore drilling platforms, oceanic ships, fishing boats and island-based troops with fresh water, playing an important role to promote small-scale integrated seawater desalination equipment in remote sea island areas.
