the hangzhou water treatment technology development center has received the “green civilization” title, in hangzhou, as part of a campaign to develop a “green civilization”. the center was rewarded for its outstanding work as an “ecological monitoring station for river protection”, and for its outstanding environmental protection volunteers. among the organizers of the 2012 campaign were the hangzhou youth league, the municipal environmental protection bureau, and the center for volunteer work.
the center has contributed a lot to the use of waste water in china through national science and technology research projects, key technology projects, the nation’s 863 high-tech program, and key research for the provincial science and technology department. it was also a pioneer in the use of waste-water in electroplating, paper-making, and dyeing, by using membrane waste-water treatment technology. as a leader in environmental protection, it has undertaken more than 50 waste-water treatment projects in electroplating, paper-making, garbage treatment, dyeing, pharmaceuticals and chemicals. the cumulative waste-water treatment capacity of these projects exceeded 1 million tons per day and the economic benefits went above 10 billion yuan. the center has played a great part in the country’s environmental protection cause
