bluestar silicon materials co ltd, a subsidiary of china national bluestar (group) co ltd, was founded in august, 2002 by its parent company after taking over the bankrupt gansu calcium carbide plant. the new subsidiary became involved in the research and development, production and sale of industrial silicon. today, bluestar silicon materials owns assets valued at more than 990 million yuan. the company is located in zhongbao town in the city lanzhou in gansu province. its facilities neighbor lanzhou-xinxiang railway and lanzhou-wuhan highway of state road 312. the company is 123 kilometers from lanzhou and owns a special railway line. thus, the company is located conveniently close to rail, highway and aviation facilities, as well as advanced communications providers.

the factory, with an area of 190,653 square meters and total assets of 63.23 million yuan, is mainly engaged in machining, vehicle repair and casting.
the factory has more than 390 sets of machinery and processing equipment and a special power system. originally, its major products were mountain tractors and other mechanical components. after being transferred to bluestar, the company imported technologies from france and began to manufacture environmentally-friendly charcoal carbonization equipment. the factory has built a 3,000-ton charcoal carbonization testing equipment each year. in december 2004, the company won its quality system management iso9001: 2000 certification.
